The game design for Reclaimer Wars is centered around a simple but game-defining mechanic - each team has two roles that offer differing gameplay. One player always plays as the commander of numerous basic units, able to command them across the battlefield while having better understanding of the map's layout and enemy movements. The other player will have control of a powerful hero that can challenge the enemy team's armies or various other threats from a 3rd-person perspective. Examples of the basic units and the hero unit can be seen here.
